project summary
Suzie Bridges worked initially for Sir Stephen Whaley-Cohen to prepare proposals and secure listed building consent for a major redevelopment of the Grade II* listed theatre including works to foyers, auditorium and flytower.
The proposals included improving the flow of Front of House spaces and increasing numbers of toilets, merchandising areas and bars. In the 1550-seat auditorium seat numbers were increased by 10% and seat legroom improved though clever re-planning. The depth of the stage was increased, making use of an additional 6m of land to the rear and rebuilding the flytower. Finally, Back of House facilities were improved, increasing dressing rooms, adding a rehearsal room and refurbishing technical spaces.

“These plans would make Victoria Palace the most advanced commercial theatre in London, both in its ability to present large and highly technical productions and in the comfortable facilities we will offer our audiences. We will be the first fully 21st century theatre both for actors and technicians and for audience members.”
Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen - Director, Victoria Palace
